Moscow warns of risk to Bushehr NPP after airstrikes - 1

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the Iranian nuclear power plant in Bushehr is at risk due to US-Israeli airstrikes, Reuters and TASS reported. According to Moscow, explosions can be heard near the site at a distance of several kilometers from the protective perimeter, BTA reports.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed that the military actions are making it difficult for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to monitor the situation.

“According to the assessments of our nuclear specialists, there is a real threat to the plant, as explosions can be heard kilometers from its protective zone“, said Zakharova. She expressed her expectation that the IAEA would provide an objective and technically sound assessment of the potential radiological risks arising from the strikes by the United States and Israel.

According to her, the reputation of the agency and its leadership is at stake.

For its part, the IAEA reported that visible damage was found to two buildings near the nuclear site in Isfahan. At the same time, the nuclear material storage facilities were not affected and there is currently no evidence of leakage of radiological substances.
