North Korea will build two destroyers a year and continue to arm its fleet with nuclear weapons.

This was announced by leader Kim Jong-un during a visit to a shipyard in the coastal city of Nampo. There, he inspected the trials of the new destroyer “Choi Ryong“ before its commissioning.

“We must build two surface ships of the same or higher class a year during the new five-year plan (2026-2030)“, Kim Jong-un said, noting that the trials of “Choi Ryong“ are proceeding successfully.

The head of state stressed that North Korea has sufficient human and industrial potential for this. “The submarine and surface offensive forces of our fleet will increase sharply. The nuclear weapons of the fleet are developing satisfactorily“, he said. The Supreme Commander added that this is necessary “only for defense“. “If there are forces that fear such a strengthening of our defense, it means that they are our enemy“, he said.

The leader boarded the destroyer and inspected the training of the sailors, the technical parameters of the ship and its operational capabilities. He observed the test launch of strategic cruise missiles from the ship and expressed satisfaction that the crew had "perfectly developed its strategic attack capability."

Kim Jong-un also inspected the construction of the third Choe Hyon-class warship.
