Sabotage case against Nord Stream gas pipeline begins in London - 1

The hearings in the sabotage case against the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines began on April 16 at the High Court of England and Wales, a TASS correspondent reported from London.

The plaintiff Nord Stream, which is the operator of the gas pipeline, is seeking 580 million euros in insurance compensation from the defendant - the insurers from Lloyd's of London. The trial, presided over by Judge Clare Mulder, is expected to last approximately five weeks.

The court will not determine who exactly blew up the gas pipelines. The hearings are focused solely on the issue of insurance payments. Lloyd's of London claims that the strikes were carried out either at the behest of a state (Russia, the US or Ukraine) or by non-state actors from Ukraine as a result of the military conflict between Moscow and Kiev and therefore fall under the exclusions of the insurance policy.

„Nord Stream“ emphasizes that the gas pipelines were not located in a conflict zone, were not a military object and the damage caused to them did not contribute to the military objectives of either party.

On September 27, 2022, Nord Stream AG reported “unprecedented destruction“ that occurred the previous day “along three lines of the „Nord Stream“ and „Nord Stream 2“ offshore gas pipelines.

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has opened a case of international terrorism.
