Tisza demands a new vote in one of the constituencies in Hungary - the vote was won by an independent namesake of Peter - 1

The „Tisza“ party, which won the parliamentary elections in Hungary, will demand a new vote in one of the single-mandate constituencies, believing that its opponent won unfairly.

This was stated by the leader of „Tisza“ Peter Magyar, who will soon become the country's prime minister.

He claims that in a single-mandate constituency in the Vas region, located in western Hungary, Peter Ag, a candidate from the ruling „ Fidesz“ party - Hungarian Civic Union, won his seat by fraud, as his surname was...Magyar.

“Therefore, neither we nor the residents of Vász's district can consider him a legitimately elected member of parliament“, writes Magyar.

According to the leader of “Tisa“, Péter Magyar, who bears the same surname, was registered as an independent candidate in this single-member constituency and received 909 votes. Magyar claims that this was done at the insistence of Fidesz, which deliberately misled voters in order to steal votes from Tisa's candidate Viktoria Stompová and ensure the victory of her rival Ag. The Fidesz candidate received 258 votes more than Tisa's candidate.

Magyar claims that this is “Russian tactics in their most cynical form“ and deliberate deception of voters. “We call for new, fair elections in your region“, said Tisza's leader. He said police had opened an investigation there into alleged violations of election law.

The elections in Hungary are held under a mixed system - of the 199 members of the National Assembly, 106 are elected from single-member constituencies and 93 from party lists.

According to preliminary results published by the National Electoral Bureau (NVI) after counting 99.99% of the votes, Tisza is expected to win 141 of the 199 seats in parliament. Her main rival, the ruling Fidesz coalition led by Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the Christian Democratic People's Party, can count on only 52 seats. The far-right Our Homeland party secured six seats. The remaining parties failed to pass the 5% threshold to enter parliament.

The voter turnout in Hungary's parliamentary elections this time was a record high - 79.56%, compared to around 70% in the previous elections in 2022. More than 5.988 million people took part in the vote on April 12.

Tisa's leader will be elected prime minister of Hungary at the first session of the new parliament, which is likely to be held on May 9. The exact date will be set by Hungarian President Tamás Sujok. He has already invited Magyar to form a new government.

Tisa's party will have a constitutional majority in parliament and plans to amend the constitution, including limiting the prime minister's term to two four-year terms. Orbán and Fidesz are moving into opposition.
