US President Donald Trump has again called on Iran's leadership to beg for mercy.
„Now they have to beg for mercy. That's all they have to do. Just say: „We surrender“, the US leader said.
Commenting on the progress of the US-Israeli war with Iran in a conversation with reporters at the White House, he expressed the opinion that the Islamic Republic has already been defeated.
„We destroyed them militarily. And their economy is dead“, Trump said.
In recent weeks, he has publicly called on the Iranian government several times to beg for mercy.
Trump made similar statements on March 10 and 6 April.
The military-political situation between the US and Iran is in a critical phase of waiting after an initial massive escalation.
The conflict began on February 28, 2026, with massive air strikes by the US (Operation “Epic Fury“) and Israel against Iranian nuclear facilities, military infrastructure, and government buildings. The strikes killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was succeeded by his son Mojtaba.
The US is currently maintaining a complete naval blockade of Iranian ports, aimed at stopping oil exports. In response, Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, which led to the blocking of about 20% of the world's oil trade.
A formal and uncertain ceasefire has been in effect since April 8, 2026. Negotiations for a peace agreement are currently underway in Pakistan, with the mediation of Islamabad, but so far they have have not led to a lasting result.
Reports from the Pentagon and the “New York Times“ indicate that the war has depleted a significant portion of the US stockpile of precision weapons, with the cost so far estimated at over $25 billion.
The main obstacle in the negotiations remains the fate of Iran's enriched uranium, with Iran refusing to halt its program despite pressure.
Tehran has warned of an “unprecedented military response“ if the US does not lift the naval blockade. The US military, for its part, is developing plans for new strikes against Iranian capabilities in the Gulf if the ceasefire fails.
The situation remains highly volatile, with both sides preparing simultaneously for a new round of talks and a potential resumption of large-scale hostilities.
