Several thousand people entered a military training ground near the commune of Bourges in central France to hold an outdoor party. According to Le Monde, local authorities deemed the event too dangerous due to the possibility of unexploded ordnance in the area.
The first participants arrived early in the morning of May 1. By 9:00 a.m., authorities had already counted 2,300 vehicles near the site where event organizers expect up to 30,000 people over the weekend.
The Cher department prefecture stressed that the event was not authorized and that police and gendarmerie had already been sent to block access to the dangerous area. The prefecture specified that the organizers face “legal prosecution“. "The participants were stationed in an area where there may be unexploded ordnance. A worse location could not have been chosen," the prefecture said. They also urged those at the training ground not to light fires, dig or pick up objects from the ground.
