The water level in the Tobol River near Kurgan has risen by 74 centimeters since Sunday morning, the city administration announced, RIA Novosti reported.
According to a geoportal informing about the flood situation in this region, by 20:00 the water level near Kurgan had reached 565 centimeters, and at 08:00 it was about 491 centimeters.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 304 houses and 473 farms are currently flooded in the area. More than 7.1 thousand residents were evacuated as a precaution, 885 people are in temporary accommodation centers.
The peak of flooding in Kurgan is expected on April 14-15. At the same time, another 62 settlements, 4,300 houses, 5,550 households and 600 villas may be flooded. 18,718 people are expected to be in the emergency zone.
A regional emergency has been declared in the region.
Southern Ural regions faced record flooding this year. The situation is most difficult in the Orenburg region. On April 5, the dam that protected Orsk from the waters of the Ural River broke. The authorities carried out a mass evacuation. On Sunday, the water level in the Orenburg region began to decrease for the first time.
A federal state of emergency has been declared in the region. The regional government estimates the estimated damage from the flood at 21 billion rubles.
A state of emergency is also in force in the Tyumen region. The evacuation of two villages began there today. 51 settlements, 1,847 houses and 7,291 people are threatened by floods. The most intense situation with the release of water in the floodplains is expected on April 20 with a peak on April 23-25.
Authorities in neighboring Kazakhstan said the current floods were the worst in more than 80 years.
