Robert Fico: Division between Slovaks does not contribute to peace - 1

Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico said yesterday during the commemoration of Victory Day at the Slavic War Memorial in Bratislava , quoted by the Slovak news agency TASR and BTA, that the division of Slovaks on fundamental issues is not in favor of peace. Therefore, it is better for them to unite and embrace tradition and values.

In his speech, Fizzo stated that he highly values every life sacrificed during the Second World War for the victory over fascism.

Fico emphasized that Slovakia was liberated by the Red Army and the soldiers of the Romanian army, which forged a strong bond between Slovaks and residents of the former Soviet Union. The prime minister rejected what he saw as historical revisionism and emphasized that the victory in the Second World War and the biggest share of the victory over fascism belonged to the Red Army of the former Soviet Union.

According to Fizzo, it is not good for peace if the war is discussed lightly. Fico expressed frustration with the European Union, which was created as a peace project but failed to provide a workable peace plan to end the conflict in Ukraine. “This is a huge demonstration of the weakness of the European Union”, he said, adding that the EU is not capable of acting independently in terms of foreign policy.

According to Fico, the only weapon Slovakia has is compliance with international law. He emphasized that Slovakia should adhere to a foreign policy based on its membership in the EU and NATO, oriented to the four directions of the world.
