Thousands of protesters gathered in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, to demand the resignation of the prime minister Nikol Pashinyan, BNR reported.

The reason for the discontent was Pashinyan's decision to hand over to Azerbaijan several uninhabited border villages in the Tavush region, which Armenia has controlled since the 1990s. According to the prime minister, this is of key importance for the signing of a peace agreement with Baku.

Members of opposition parties and organizations of refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh joined the protest in front of the government headquarters in Yerevan. A group of protesters, led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, walked the distance of nearly 200 kilometers between a village in the northeast and the capital.

" Nikol Pashinyan, we give you one hour to resign. You no longer have any power in Armenia," Galstanyan said, quoted by local media.

Last year, the Azerbaijani army seized Nagorno-Karabakh by force, forcing around 100,000 local residents to flee their homes.
