Tunisian police yesterday raided the building of the House of Lawyers and arrested Sonia Dahmani, a prominent lawyer who became known for her harsh criticism of President Kais Sayed , after which he detained two journalists who witnessed the incident, reported the Syndicate of Journalists in Tunisia, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
The detained journalists are Murad Zgidi and Borchen Bsais from IFM radio, a union official announced.
The incident is the latest case in a series of arrests and investigations against activists, journalists and critics of President Sayed and the government, according to Reuters.
Dahmani was arrested after saying on a TV show that Tunisia is a country where life is not pleasant.
Her arrest raises fears among the opposition of the president's authoritarian rule ahead of presidential elections scheduled for later this year, Reuters notes.
Dahmani received a summons on Thursday, which she failed to comply with and did not appear on Friday before an investigating judge, which may have led to her arrest, according to AFP.
