India's record 52.3 degrees Celsius was measured in Delhi, the Indian Meteorological Department said service quoted by France Press and BTA.
The record temperature was measured in the Delhi suburb of Mungeshpur. The previous national record in India was improved by more than one percent.
Delhi authorities have issued a warning to residents of the capital.
The population was warned to be careful in view of the "high probability of developing heat-related illnesses and heatstroke". A call was made for vulnerable groups to be especially cautious.
The India Meteorological Department has said that the heatwave that has gripped central and northwestern India will gradually begin to subside from tomorrow.
In May 2022, 49.2 degrees Celsius were measured in some districts of Delhi, AFP recalls.
