Warning of very high fire risk for a number of regions in Greece was issued today by the Greek Ministry of the Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, reported the state television ERT, quoted by BTA.
A risk warning of category four (very high danger) is in effect for the region of Attica, where the capital Athens is located, as well as for central Greece and the Peloponnese.
In most areas of Northern Greece, the risk is set as medium.
The Greek Civil Defense warns citizens to be careful and avoid activities that can cause a fire, such as burning dry grass and branches, using appliances that create sparks, using open grills, etc.
The big fire that broke out yesterday in the region of Achaia on the Peloponnese peninsula and spread to the region of Ilia is now without active fronts after fighting the fire during the night. A man who participated in extinguishing the fire died yesterday. However, strong winds continue to blow in the area and there are fears of a new flare-up.
