Gallant before leaving for US: Israel is prepared for any action in Lebanon - 1

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced that the country is on high alert and ready to respond, if necessary, not only in Gaza and Lebanon, but wherever threats may arise.

Israel is “prepared for any action that may be necessary in Gaza, Lebanon and other areas," Gallant said, quoted by BTA.

The statement was made before the minister's departure to the US.

Gallant was invited by his colleague Lloyd Austin and will meet Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

"The United States is our most important and fundamental ally. Our relationship is crucial and perhaps now more important than ever," Gallant said amid the serious aggravation of relations with the administration of US President Joe Biden, BTA reports.

The Israeli defense minister will discuss in particular the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip and the volatile situation on the border with Lebanon, where clashes with the Iran-backed group "Hezbollah" have been escalating since the beginning of October.

Key members of the House of Representatives have pledged unwavering support for Israel, even if the confrontation with "Hezbollah" escalated into a full-scale conflict, according to a CNN report.

The visit comes at a time when the relationship between Israel and its main ally the US is facing challenges. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent criticism of the US for delaying arms deliveries has not gone unnoticed, sparking some controversy.

US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby expressed disappointment at Netanyahu's remarks, underscoring the concern and surprise they have caused in the administration.

Gallant's visit is a testament to the complex and vital relationship between Israel and the United States, especially in times of regional uncertainty and security challenges.
