Britain Has Made It Clear That It Did Not Give Ukraine Permission To Attack Russian Territory With Storm Shadows Missiles, reported The Telegraph.
"Downing Street" stated that government policy “has not changed” on the use of the long-range missiles, despite comments from Prime Minister Keir Starmer suggesting he is loosening restrictions on how the missiles are used.
The British government has allowed Kiev to fire the missiles at targets in Crimea and mainland Ukraine since they were delivered last year, but has banned the country from using them to strike targets in Russia. Officials are concerned that such a move would escalate the war and could draw the UK into conflict with Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who met with world leaders at NATO's 75th anniversary in Washington – announced on Wednesday evening that it had received permission to use strategic cruise missiles in Russia. The British Ministry of War, however, denied that such permission had been given. The US position is similar – Americans allow missile strikes on military targets on Russian territory, but near the border with Ukraine, not deep inside the federation.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyi's chief adviser, Andriy Yermak, has called for an end to restrictions on the use of allied-supplied weapons against targets deep inside Russian territory, saying it would lead to a major shift in the fight against Moscow's occupation . Yermak did not mention any specific country restrictions, but his comments come days after the White House reaffirmed a ban on Ukraine conducting strikes deep into Russian territory with US-supplied weapons following a Russian missile strike on a children's hospital in Kiev.
