Kremlin urged Venezuelan opposition to accept Maduro's victory **** Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said outside powers - 1

Political opposition in Venezuela must accept that "She also lost to congratulate Nicolás Maduro on his victory," the Kremlin called in a statement, reports Reuters, quoted by BTA.

Both Maduro and his opponent declared victory in the presidential election, which was held on Sunday. Protests broke out yesterday in the South American country against the third term of the president.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said outside powers should not try to destabilize Venezuela, which is a close ally of Russia, after Washington and several other foreign governments questioned the official results.

„It is very important that attempts to sow turmoil in the situation in Venezuela are not fueled by third countries and that Venezuela is free from external interference,” Peskov emphasized.

Protests and clashes broke out in the center of the Venezuelan capital Caracas yesterday. Demonstrators accused authorities of rigging the election after Maduro was declared the winner of the vote. Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez reported that more than 20 military personnel were injured during the clashes.
