The Palestinian Islamist group "Hamas", which rules the Gaza Strip, announced ikfyr in a statement that it has started broad consultations to choose a new leader of the movement after the assassination of the previous leader Ismail Hania, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Hania was killed earlier this week in the Iranian capital, Tehran, after attending the inauguration of Iran's new president, Massoud Pezeshkian.
Multi-thousand rally in support of Palestine and in memory of the murdered head of the political bureau of "Hamas" Ismail Hania took place in Istanbul in front of the "Hagia Sophia" temple, Turkish media reported, quoted by BTA.
During the demonstration huge flags of Turkey and Palestine were raised.
Similar actions took place in a number of other countries. In Istanbul, the demonstration was organized by the "Support for Palestine" platform. and other non-governmental organizations, reports the state television TRT-Haber.
Participants in the demonstration in Istanbul held up placards with slogans in Turkish, Arabic and English such as "Freedom for Palestine", "Murderer - USA, out of Palestine", "Israel - out of Gaza" and "Our hearts are with "Hamas", we support the resistance", "Salute to "Hamas", keep up the resistance", Genocide is taking place in Gaza", "Israel to stop the genocide", "End the slaughter, children should not die".
During the rally, prayers were read for the dead Palestinians, as well as for the Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
The police in Istanbul took increased security measures in the area of "Sofia". There are no reports of disturbances.
In a number of other cities in Turkey today, demonstrations were organized in memory of Hania and in support of Palestine. Rallies were organized in Eskisehir, Yalova, Antalya, Kutahya, Diyarbekir, Mardin, Burdur, Erzurum, Ardahan, Hatay, Bitlis, Mush, Anadolu Agency informed.
