Kiev called for an international investigation into the alleged beheading of a Ukrainian prisoner of war - 1

Ukraine's human rights commissioner Dmytro Lyubinets called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations to conduct an investigation in connection with a photo circulating on the Internet, "probably of a Ukrainian prisoner whose head and limbs were cut off by the Russians,", Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

At the same time, the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine announced that it has launched an urgent investigation into information spread on social networks about the murder and dismemberment of a Ukrainian prisoner of war.

"A photo appeared on the Internet, probably of a Ukrainian prisoner of war whose head and limbs were cut off by the Russians," said Lubinets in "Telegram". "In view of these horrific footage, I urgently appealed to the ICRC and the UN with a request to register yet another violation of human rights committed by the terrorist state," Lubinets added.

"Russia consistently repeats the crimes of the Nazis, demonstratively showing complete contempt for all the norms of the civilized world," wrote in "Telegram" Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin.

Russia denies allegations that it is torturing prisoners of war.

In March, the UN Special Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine published a report stating that it had documented credible allegations of at least 32 executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war that took place between December 2023 and February this year.

The three-member commission of inquiry said it had also gathered more evidence that Russia systematically tortured Ukrainian prisoners of war, documenting threats of rape and the use of electric shocks on the genitals.

The commission added that the scale of these tortures could amount to the worst abuses known as crimes against humanity, and described them as "widespread and systematic".
