Bad news for Donald Trump! Americans increasingly favor Kamala Harris - 1

US Vice President Kamala Harris has a slight lead over Donald Trump in several the state, shows a new study by the Associated Press and the National Center for Public Opinion Research (NORC), although Americans still trust the former president a little more on the issues of the economy and immigration, writes BTA.

Almost half of Americans say they are “committed to democracy” and “disciplined“ are characteristics that better describe Harris. About three in ten say these are Trump's strengths.

According to four in ten voters, Harris is the one who “cares about people like you,”, while three in ten feel the same way about Trump. About 40 percent indicated that “honest“ better describes the vice president, and 24% believe that this quality applies more to her opponent.

Both parties are racing to define Harris as she prepares to formally accept the Democratic nomination next week, the poll shows. According to him, the vice-president carries “the same burden that she sank” President Joe Biden before he dropped out of the presidential race, but she has advantages over Trump when comparing the two directly.

Trump is running an election campaign in which he wants to be perceived as a strong leader capable of dealing with the severe crises facing the country. He suggests that Harris will be a president who will not earn the respect of Western leaders.

For now, however, he has no advantage over his opponent on these characteristics, the survey shows. Four out of ten voters see Trump as a strong leader. A similar proportion of those claiming the same for Harris. The same number of people see the former president as capable of handling crises, compared to a similar percentage for the vice president.

Americans are still divided on who they think is capable of winning the November election. In July, before Biden dropped out of the race, only two in ten Americans thought he could win, while twice as many said the same about Trump.

About 45 percent of voters now say they trust the previous US president more on the economy and immigration, compared to 38 percent who trust the current vice president more.

Harris enjoys more credibility than Trump when it comes to tackling issues related to racial inequality, abortion policy and health care. Nearly half of voters think the Democrat would do a better job on these issues than the Republican, whom three in ten voters trust.

About two in 10 independent voters said they would like to see Harris elected to office, while a similar number of independent voters said the same for Trump.
