Gaza Ceasefire Talks Resumed - 1

Ceasefire talks in the Gaza Strip and the release of Israeli hostages resumed in Cairo. The participants discussed ways to bring the positions between Israel and the Palestinian movement “Hamas” closer together, while the UN reports worsening humanitarian conditions on the ground – widespread hunger and cases of polio, reported Reuters.

Israeli strikes in Gaza killed 50 people yesterday, the Palestinian health authorities announced.

The delegation of “Hamas“ arrived in Cairo today to be ready to review the proposals that will emerge during the negotiations between Israel and the mediators Egypt, Qatar and the United States.

Qatar Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani is also expected to attend.

A US official said his country's negotiators met bilaterally with Egyptian representatives and were later joined by Qatari representatives. He expressed confidence that the representatives of the two Arab countries held meetings with “Hamas”.

Negotiations that have continued in recent months have not yet led to a breakthrough to end Israel's devastating military campaign in Gaza or to release the remaining captives of “Hamas” hostages taken after the group's attack on Israel on October 7 last year that started the current war.

So far, there are no signs of a breakthrough on key contentious issues, including Israel's insistence that its armed forces control a corridor along the Gaza-Israel border.

„Hamas“ accused Israel of returning to topics on which an understanding had previously been reached – something Israel denies. The group also said the US was not acting in good faith in its role as mediator.
