Russia updates its nuclear doctrine - 1

On Sunday (29 September), the Kremlin said amendments were being prepared in the Russian nuclear doctrine, which are about to be formalized, which means that the relevant documents defining the circumstances under which Moscow can use nuclear weapons will be updated, reports Reuters, quoted by FOCUS.

The changes are widely seen as an attempt by Putin to draw a "red line" for the United States and its allies, signaling that Moscow would consider responding with nuclear weapons if they allowed Ukraine to strike deep into Russia with long-range Western missiles.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told state TV reporter Pavel Zarubin on Sunday:

"The changes have been prepared and will now be made official".

Peskov has pointed to the "international situation, escalating tensions near Russia's borders and the increasing proximity of NATO infrastructure to them", as well as what he calls "deeper involvement of Western nuclear forces" as a prerequisite for the changes in the doctrine. in the war in Ukraine on the side of Kyiv.
