Georgia's ruling party "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia" a new impeachment procedure has begun against the country's pro-European president Salome Zurabishvili before the upcoming parliamentary elections, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
According to the Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, quoted by the local media in the capital Tbilisi, the reason is her unauthorized official trip abroad.
The party cites the constitution, which stipulates that the government must pre-approve the travel of the head of state, who is now saddled with few powers. Last year, a similar procedure failed.
In the parliamentary elections on October 26, the ruling party hopes to secure a strong majority in parliament so that it can overthrow the president this time. The reason for the dispute is Zurabishvili's European trip last week, during which she also visited Germany.
