Authorities in St. Lucie County, Florida, said there are several tornado deaths from Hurricane Milton, WPBF 25 News reported.
Several tornadoes have moved through the Spanish Lakes area and emergency services are currently on the scene. Representatives of the police and firefighters are inspecting the destroyed areas to provide assistance to the victims and the search operations are continuing. The exact number of victims of the disaster has not been specified.
The number of customers without power has exceeded 1.1 million, according to data from PowerOutage.
Power outages are seen among 1.12 million customers.
About 125 homes were destroyed, said the head of the regional Emergency Management Agency, Kevin Guthrie.
He specified that most of the destroyed houses were mobile homes and apartment complexes for the elderly. Guthrie also added that the authorities are focused on helping the most vulnerable categories of the population to ensure their safety, quoted by ABC TV.
The Category 3 hurricane made landfall around 8:35 p.m. local time near the town of Siesta Key. Milton will continue to bring life-threatening storm surges, heavy rainfall and damaging winds to central Florida, and they will remain strong through at least Thursday morning.
