Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said today that Serbia is on the European path, but at the same time succeeding successfully, almost in impossible conditions, to maintain his friendship with the Russian Federation as well as his relations with China, reported TANYUG.
In an interview with the Serbian television “TV First“ he indicated that he only listens to Serbia, “but not in the sense that (we do) everything the citizens want to hear, but that I listen to the needs of Serbia”. He added that he agrees with the results of the study by the "Demostat" research center, according to which Serbian citizens would support him for joining the European Union and BRICS. According to him, however, there should not be such a division, BTA specifies.
Vucic emphasized that Serbia is on the European path and its policy will not change overnight. He noted that with this policy he was able to maintain both his good relations with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and to welcome the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in Belgrade.
„Was it easy for me to tell (Russian) President Putin that I would not be going (to the BRICS summit) in Kazan? And do you know what I would have endangered if I had canceled these meetings and gone to Kazan?“, emphasized the Serbian president. “We are a small country. We often act like we are India and China and we can fight anyone and do whatever we want. We are not. We won't be. In 2050 we will have 5.2 million citizens, if we do not do something epochal before then and if we do not disappear in a global collision. And we will make all this not happen“.
He concluded that the media will increasingly ask Serbia to decide whether it is for the European side or for the Russian side, but he questions who is for Serbia.
