US President-elect Donald Trump nominated today Pam Bondi for attorney general, after Matt Geitz, who was his first nomination, withdrew his candidacy, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.
Pam Bondi is a former Florida attorney general and a longtime Trump ally. Bondi was among the lawyers in Trump's first impeachment trial, when the then-president was charged but not convicted of abuse of power while trying to tie US military aid to Ukraine to an investigation into then-former Vice President Joe Biden.
Bondi was also among the group of Republicans who came to support Trump during the “money for silence” in New York, which ended in May with a conviction on 34 charges. She is the chair of the America First Policy Institute, a think tank created by former Trump administration officials.
The selection of Pam Bondi was made six hours after the withdrawal of Gates.
