Romanians must have confidence that their elections are free from foreign malign influence, the US State Department said, after Romania's Constitutional Court overturned the results of a first-round presidential election produced in the country, after accusations of Russian interference, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
„The United States reaffirms its confidence in Romania's democratic institutions and processes, including the investigation into foreign malign influence,” said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.
„The United States stands by the Romanian people who are facing an unprecedented situation”, he added.
From there, they called on all parties to support the constitutional order in the country and engage in a peaceful, democratic process.
