Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkinen said that Russia and its allies will continue to pose a threat to Europe even after the end of the war in Ukraine. This was emphasized during a press conference quoted by Reuters and BTA.
“Russia, together with its allies, will remain a dangerous factor in Europe even after the war in Ukraine, and we cannot rule out the possibility that it will threaten European countries with the use of military force“, Häkkinen said.
New defense report published
The statement coincided with the presentation of Finland's first defense review since the country joined NATO. This historic shift in Finland's defense policy was triggered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The review reflects the new strategic reality in Europe and emphasizes the threats posed by Russia's aggressive policies, as well as the need for closer cooperation with NATO members.
