German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and US President-elect Donald Trump held a telephone conversation in which they discussed the conflict in Ukraine, world agencies reported. According to a statement from the German government, during the conversation the two leaders agreed that the war in Ukraine has gone on for too long, BTA reports.
"It is essential that we commit ourselves as quickly as possible to the path to a just and lasting peace," they said. Chancellor Scholz confirmed that he would continue to support Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression.
During the summit in Brussels, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for unity both among Europeans and with the United States, emphasizing that transatlantic cooperation is crucial to achieving peace.
