As FAKTI has already reported, a freelance correspondent for the newspaper “Izvestia“ was killed in an attack by a Ukrainian drone in the Donetsk region. BTA reported this last night, citing information from France Presse and Reuters.
The victim is Alexander Martemyanov, who died in the attack on a car on the Donetsk-Gorlovka highway. The car was far from the line of contact, the newspaper “Izvestia” indicates in its "Telegram" channel.
Five more journalists were injured in the attack, Russian military correspondent Alexander Kots reported. Among the injured were two journalists from "RIA Novosti".
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the incident as premeditated murder, Reuters reports.
"The premeditated murder of Russian journalists is another cruel crime in a series of bloody atrocities by the Zelensky regime, which openly resorts to terrorist methods to eliminate its ideological opponents," Zakharova said, quoted by TASS.
According to the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists, at least 15 journalists have been killed while covering the conflict in Ukraine. The organization says it is currently investigating other deaths of journalists, Agence France-Presse recalls.
Another war correspondent for "Izvestia" - Semyon Eremin, was killed by a Ukrainian drone in August 2024 in the Zaporizhzhia region in southern Ukraine, the newspaper reported.
The spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Farhan Haq, said that the UN is against any attacks on journalists.
