The Austrian public broadcaster (ORF) reported that an Austrian citizen was kidnapped yesterday in Niger. The attackers kidnapped the 73-year-old woman, who works in development aid, in the central city of Agadez, located in a desert region of the country, BTA reports.
According to local sources, the attack was carried out by car, and the Austrian Foreign Ministry confirmed the incident.
They are in contact with the Austrian embassy in Algeria and are working closely with partners from the European Union and regional authorities to take the necessary measures and ensure the safety of the citizen. The Nigerien Foreign Ministry has not yet provided any additional information about the events or possible attackers.
Sources say the victim is a 73-year-old woman who has been involved in development and humanitarian aid work in the region for 30 years.
