Ukraine and Poland take first steps towards joint customs control with the EU - 1

Ukraine expects the first results of negotiations on joint customs and border control with the European Union. This was stated by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at a government meeting, Ukrinform reported, quoted by BTA.

“We are continuing negotiations on joint customs and border control with the EU. We expect the first results this year. The European Commission is currently assessing our potential agreement with Poland. Once we agree on technical issues, we will be able to use this model for other EU neighbors,“ Shmyhal explained.

He announced that the electronic queue system at the border, called e-Queue, will be improved this year. For more than two years, the system has processed over 1.6 million border crossing requests, with thousands of trucks and buses using it daily. This has significantly reduced waiting times at border crossings.

Further modernization of border crossings is also on the agenda. In 2022, a Strategy for the Development of Border Infrastructure with the EU and Moldova until 2030 was approved, which includes the renovation of 28 points and the construction of at least six new ones.

“The EU's goal is to make border crossing by citizens and businesses as fast and convenient as possible,“ the Ukrainian Prime Minister emphasized.
