Zelensky urges 200,000 peacekeepers in Ukraine to ensure security - 1

Ukraine will need at least 200,000 peacekeepers to ensure its security in the face of ongoing conflict, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, News.bg reports.

He stressed in his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos that this is the minimum number of forces necessary to effectively ensure security.

Zelensky explained that this number of peacekeepers is not only necessary, but also essential to prevent any future threats.

“If Ukraine has an army of 1.5 million people, then along with the necessary peacekeepers, we must have contingents with a large number of soldiers to assist us“, added the Ukrainian leader.

Ukraine will not allow a reduction in its army

The president also expressed Ukraine's firmness regarding possible demands from the Russian side in the context of peace talks. He specified that although Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to demand a reduction in the Ukrainian army during the negotiations, Ukraine will not allow a reduction in its forces.

Call to Europe and Trump's position

Zelensky called on Europe to take a firm position when discussing war with US President Donald Trump, in order to explain to him the risks and consequences of peace negotiations with Russia.

Trump has repeatedly stated that he is ready to meet with Vladimir Putin and discuss the possibilities for peace.

“I am ready to meet with Putin anytime they ask”, Trump emphasized, hinting at the development of diplomatic efforts in the new political context.
