The twenty-eighth night that Pope Francis spent in the "Gemelli" hospital in Rome passed without further complications, DPA reported, citing the Vatican, BTA reported.
"The Pope spent a peaceful night," the updated information from the Holy See states. The Vatican did not provide further details about the health condition of the 88-year-old Francis.
The Holy Father has been in hospital since February 14. He is suffering from complicated bilateral pneumonia. The pope has been improving slightly for several days, but progress has been slow, doctors say, DPA reports.
Yesterday, the pontiff marked the 12th anniversary of his election as head of the Roman Catholic Church in the hospital. On March 13, 2013, Francis, who was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was elected successor to German-born Pope Benedict XVI. Francis was presented with a cake by the hospital's medical staff to mark the anniversary.
Doctors at the Gemelli hospital remain cautious about the Holy Father's possible discharge date.
The Gemelli hospital, located in western Rome, has a special area on its 10th floor designated for the medical care of each pontiff. There has been recent speculation that the Pope's Vatican residence, "Santa Marta", could be prepared to accommodate him for future treatment.
