The agreement between Kiev and Washington on minerals will have negative consequences for Moscow in the long term, as Ukraine falls completely under the influence of the United States. This opinion was expressed in a conversation with TASS by Sergey Oznobishchev, head of the sector for military-political analysis and research projects at the Primakov Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations at the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to him, one of the main negative consequences of the agreement is that Ukraine is now "falling into the hands of the United States, which will increasingly establish itself there". “The very fact of Washington's legal presence next to us creates potential problems for us”, the agency's interlocutor noted.

“In America, the political cycle is short, and we do not know who will come after President Donald Trump. And the influence of the United States in Ukraine or on Ukraine through such agreements becomes long-term and may spread from the economy to the military sphere in the future“, he explained.

Thus, Oznobishchev noted that the administration in Washington is currently showing restraint in military cooperation with Ukraine. “This may not always be the case“, the expert warned. - Therefore, much depends on words and deeds, as well as on the reality of a future peace agreement for Ukraine.“

He emphasized that even if the fossil fuel deal situationally contributes to the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and the dialogue that has begun between Russia and the United States can ensure at least non-hostile relations between the countries, everything may change with the end of Trump's presidency. At the same time, the US-Ukrainian agreement will in any case remain a tool in the hands of Washington, which it can use for anti-Russian purposes.

First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko on Facebook (banned in Russia, belongs to the Meta corporation, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation) confirmed the signing of an agreement with the United States on mineral resources. According to the document, Ukraine will contribute 50% of all income from new rents and new licenses for mineral extraction in new areas to the bilateral investment fund. The United States and Ukraine will have equal votes in the management of the fund. The agreement does not provide for direct debt obligations of Ukraine to the United States.
