Ukraine, as part of an initiative proposed by the Czech Republic in 2024, may receive 1.8 million artillery shells by the end of the year. This was announced by Czech President Petr Pavel at a joint press conference with Volodymyr Zelensky at Prague Castle.
“The initiative is financially supported by 11 countries“, he noted. “By the end of the year, 1.8 million artillery shells may be delivered.“ According to him, there are sufficient funds to achieve this goal, and the possibility of purchasing ammunition for next year is being discussed, if the conflict in Ukraine continues.
Pavel spoke in support of a quick resolution of the conflict and emphasized that “peace must be fair for Ukraine“. The Czech Republic will continue to support this country and the implementation of plans to reach a peace agreement. According to him, now everything depends on the position of the Russian Federation.
The Czech leader noted that no one is discussing the issue of the possible deployment of foreign peacekeeping troops in Ukraine. “No one is negotiating on this topic”, he emphasized. According to him, such a topic can be raised only after the conclusion of a peace agreement.
Pavel reported that during the talks with Zelensky, who arrived in Prague on Sunday, the situation in Ukraine, the implementation of plans for a peaceful settlement of the conflict and the post-war reconstruction of the country were discussed.
On Monday, Zelensky will meet with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, with the leadership of the Czech parliament, hold a conversation with students and negotiations with representatives of the republic's military-industrial complex. The discussion will focus, in particular, on cooperation in training pilots for Ukraine.
