Ukraine attacks Moscow again, hits substation in Kursk region - 1

Ukraine is attacking Moscow with drones for the second consecutive night, Russian authorities said early today, quoted by Reuters and BTA.

It was reported that the attack forced the suspension of work at the Russian capital's three main airports.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on the "Telegram" communication application that at least six drones were destroyed while flying towards Moscow.

According to preliminary data, there were no "serious damage or casualties" when debris from the destroyed drones fell on one of the key roads leading to Moscow.

Kiev has not yet commented on today's attack.

Ukrainian forces have attacked an electrical substation in the Kursk region, the governor of the Russian region, Alexander Khinshtein, said after Russian military bloggers reported a new Ukrainian ground attack in the Kursk region, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

Russian bloggers reported a ground attack involving armored military equipment.

Authorities on both sides of the border reported deaths as a result of military action and ordered evacuations in several settlements.

Alexander Khinshtein said on the "Telegram" messaging app that Ukrainian forces hit the substation in the city of Rylsk, which is located about 50 km from the border. Two transformers were damaged, causing a power outage in the area.

"Dear residents, the enemy, in its agony, continues to strike at our territory," Khinshtein wrote.

Ukraine launched a surprise offensive in the Kursk region last August to change the course of hostilities and distract Russian forces from the front line in eastern Ukraine.

The Russian military command said last month that Ukrainian forces had been pushed out of the Kursk region. Kiev has not confirmed this. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukrainian forces are continuing to operate in Russia's Kursk and Belgorod regions.

Russian bloggers earlier reported that Ukrainian forces had crossed the border, crossing minefields in special vehicles. Armored military equipment with soldiers reportedly entered afterwards.

Russian forces invaded Ukrainian territory in February 2022.

One person died during last night's drone attack in the Odessa region, the chairman of the Odessa regional military administration Oleg Kiper announced on the Telegram application, quoted by BTA.

As a result of the Russian strike on the Odessa region, a number of civilian infrastructure sites were damaged, including private residential buildings, Oleg Kiper also reported.

Fires broke out in some places, which were extinguished by the rescue and fire services.

The Bulgarians in the Odessa region number over 150,000 people and are the third largest according to the official census in Ukraine in 2001. About 50-60 thousand Bulgarians live in the city of Odessa itself. The largest compact Bulgarian population is concentrated in the Bolgrad, Izmail and Belgorod-Dniester regions.
