Russia is ceasing all military operations for the period set by President Vladimir Putin in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War - from 00:00 Moscow time on May 8 to 00:00 Moscow time on May 11 - a total of 72 hours.
Putin announced a ceasefire in late April. On May 3, Volodymyr Zelensky publicly rejected this proposal.
The Russian side noted that the Russian armed forces must be ready to repel attacks if Ukraine violates the ceasefire.
Russian President's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov noted that Russia's position on the May ceasefire is known and there are currently no new instructions on this issue. At the same time, on Wednesday evening, the Ukrainian armed forces launched a large-scale attack with unmanned aerial vehicles against Russian regions. Russian air defense forces destroyed nine drones over Moscow, the capital's mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported.
This is the third ceasefire since the start of hostilities.
