Moscow and Kiev must work to end the Ukrainian conflict, US President Donald Trump told journalists at the White House.

„I have a message to both sides: stop this war. We are losing 5,000 soldiers per week, by the way, Russian and Ukrainian soldiers, and other people. And I say: stop this stupid war. That is my message to both sides“, said the head of state.

Washington hopes that Russia and Ukraine will agree to US President Donald Trump's proposal to introduce a 30-day ceasefire. This was stated at a briefing by the White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt.

According to her, during the phone conversation between Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday, the topic of the 30-day ceasefire proposed by the United States was raised.

“We hope that both sides will agree to this“, Leavitt said, explaining that the proposal is supported by European countries. Asked further whether Trump had received a response to the proposal from Zelensky or from Russian President Vladimir Putin, Leavitt said that “she was not aware of that“. “But of course, if there is a reaction or news, I'm sure you will hear directly from the president“, the White House press secretary said.

Leavitt described Trump's conversation with Zelensky as “good and productive“. According to her, Zelensky informed the White House host that the Verkhovna Rada had ratified the agreement between Ukraine and the United States on minerals.

Earlier, Trump published a message on the social network Truth Social, in which he said that the United States and its partners would impose sanctions if a 30-day ceasefire was not achieved in Ukraine.

Last night, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, answering a question from TASS, said that discussing the essence of a 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine is impossible without taking into account the nuances. Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to declare a ceasefire during the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War - from midnight on May 8 to midnight on May 11. As reported by the Kremlin, "all military actions will be suspended during this period". The decision was made by the President of the Russian Federation "for humanitarian reasons". Volodymyr Zelensky then stated that the ceasefire should be immediate, unconditional and for at least 30 days.
