The US administration's priority in resolving the conflict in Ukraine is an immediate ceasefire and end to hostilities, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said during a phone call with British Foreign Secretary David Lamy.
“The Secretary of State reaffirmed the US position on the war between Russia and Ukraine: our top priority remains the end of hostilities and achieving an immediate ceasefire“, the State Department said in a statement.
Discussing the escalation of the conflict between India and Pakistan, the ministers stressed the need for New Delhi and Islamabad to maintain a ceasefire and continue their contacts.
“The Secretary expressed US support for direct dialogue between India and Pakistan and encouraged continued efforts to improve communications“, the statement said.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump called on Ukraine to immediately agree to talks proposed by his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, which could be held in Turkey on May 15.
The Russian president proposed on Sunday morning to the authorities in Kiev to resume direct talks, "which were interrupted in 2022", without preconditions. The dialogue is proposed to begin on May 15 in Istanbul.
