European countries have decided to wait for talks on Ukraine, scheduled for May 15 in Istanbul, before asking the US to impose new anti-Russian sanctions, Bloomberg reported, citing its sources.
According to them, on May 12 the US notified European officials of its intention to allow Russia and Ukraine to hold direct talks in Ankara to then discuss the issue of increasing pressure on Moscow.
European leaders want US President Donald Trump to take punitive measures if “Putin refuses to meet with Zelensky or Russia does not agree to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire“, the agency reports. However, according to her information, the US administration has not yet made a final decision on the issue of anti-Russian sanctions.
As Bloomberg notes, the State Department has not yet commented on the latest information.
