The head of the European Union's foreign policy, Kaia Kallas, said that she does not think that Russia is truly interested in establishing peace in Ukraine, quoted by "Reuters".
"I do not think that they (Russia) are interested in peace. They are still bombing Ukraine. "If they were interested in peace, they could have stopped right away," Kallas told reporters at a democracy summit in Copenhagen.
Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed direct peace talks between Moscow and Kiev on Sunday.
An aide to President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that the Ukrainian leader would only attend talks on Ukraine this week if Putin was there, challenging the Kremlin to show it was sincere in seeking peace.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov had earlier not named the composition of the delegation that would travel from Moscow for the talks.
According to sources familiar with the matter, President Donald Trump's two special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Keith Kellogg, will travel to Istanbul.
