The United States Supreme Court has temporarily blocked President Donald Trump's efforts to deport migrants under a 1798 law, BNR reported.

The decision by the magistrates, made by a five-to-two vote, temporarily blocked the efforts of the Donald Trump administration to expedite the extradition of a group of migrants from Venezuela, based on the wartime Alien Enemies Act, which dates back to 1798.

According to the judges, the migrants did not have enough time or information to defend their rights. According to the court panel, this is important, especially in light of the high-profile case a few weeks ago of a man who was wrongly deported to El Salvador, and who was then unable to be returned to the country. Only two justices, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, dissented from the Supreme Court's decision, saying the court had no authority to rule at this stage.

Fox News reported that the ruling did not address the legality of extraditions under the Alien Enemies Act, but rather sent the matter back to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, based in New Orleans.

"To be clear, we are only holding that detained immigrants are entitled to more notice than they were given on April 18," the ruling said.

Last month, the top judges overturned a lower court order barring the government from deporting immigrants under the archaic law. President Trump responded to the news with a post on his social network Truth social, in which he wrote: "The Supreme Court is not allowing me to do what I was elected to do".
