The ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela, led by incumbent President Nicolas Maduro, won the country's parliamentary elections held yesterday, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA, citing results announced by the Venezuelan Central Election Commission (National Electoral Council).
Madura's party retained its significant majority in parliament (National Assembly), winning almost 83 percent of the vote, the commission explained. Voting for local government was also held in parallel.
The elections were marked by deep divisions among opposition parties that resist Maduro's regime, Reuters noted.
