Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called "crazy" the statement of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer about war preparations and proposed the creation of an anti-war movement in Europe.
“I suggest that the people of Great Britain, London, Liverpool, respond to this crazy, desperate call for war by their Prime Minister“, the president said on the program “With Maduro Plus“ on the television channel Venezolana de Televisión.
He stressed that “from Venezuela we say: no to war, humanity needs peace and it is wild to talk about war in Europe“.
Maduro believes that Starmer is talking about war on behalf of “the decadent elites and arms manufacturers who unleashed two world wars“.
“It has been 80 years since the Red Army defeated the Nazis and liberated all of Europe, and 80 years later they say they are preparing for a big war“, the president said.
The Venezuelan leader called on European countries to create a powerful social, popular anti-war, anti-militaristic movement against the war that “this madman” is calling for Prime Minister Starmer.
At a press conference in Glasgow on Monday, Starmer announced that the UK was increasing its defence investment to ensure its armed forces were ready to fight amid rising tensions in Europe. “We are moving to combat readiness as the primary objective of our armed forces,“ he said, adding that the country's security would be based on partnership with NATO allies.
