The Danish parliament has approved a bill allowing US military bases on its territory, the Associated Press reported.
Ninety-four lawmakers voted in favor of the bill. Another 11 voted against. The legislation now goes to Danish King Frederick X for his signature.
Critics say the vote is a step back from Danish sovereignty. The legislation expands a previous military agreement that was signed in 2023. with the Joe Biden administration, where US troops had wide access to Danish air bases in the Scandinavian country.
The new parameters follow Donald Trump's drive to take control of the strategic, mineral-rich Arctic island of Greenland, even as the US and Denmark are NATO allies.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said Denmark could terminate the agreement if the US tried to annex all or part of Greenland.
