Iran will impose temporary restrictions on internet access, according to a statement from the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, released today by Iranian media and quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
The ministry announced the move amid the ongoing exchange of blows between Iran and Israel. The statement explains that the measure aims to counter the attempts of the "enemy to endanger the lives and property of citizens".
The London-based organization "Netblocks" (NetBlocks), which monitors the Internet, said that there was almost no access to the Internet in Iran today, reported Agence France-Presse.
Meanwhile, an anti-Iranian hacking group, which is believed to have ties to Israel, said it attacked one of Iran's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, "Nobitex", today, causing damage worth nearly $90 million.
The group, known as "Gonjeshke Darande" (which means "Predatory Sparrow" in Persian), claimed responsibility for the attack. This is the second attack by this hacking network in two days. Yesterday they said they had destroyed data from an Iranian state bank.
