Belgian MP claims Iran planned her kidnapping - 1

Belgian MP and women's rights activist Daria Safai said she was warned by security services about a possible plan by the Iranian regime to kidnap her and take her to Tehran, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

“The Belgian police and security services contacted me regarding a worrying situation related to my safety“, Safai wrote on the social network X. “They told me that they had worrying information that the Islamic regime in Iran wants to kidnap me.“

According to her, the plan included transit through Turkey, which is why she was strongly advised not to travel to the country. Safai was born in Iran and represents the "New Flemish Alliance", a nationalist party in the Belgian parliament.

Safai suggests that the threat is related to her active support for the European Union's designation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization.

She pointed out that a resolution on the matter, which she had introduced, had recently been adopted in the Belgian parliament.

"I know very well what monsters you are", she wrote, addressing the Iranian authorities. "I know that you torture, rape and kill. And although I fear for my life, I will never stop fighting for freedom.“

Safaei was detained and held in prison in Iran before escaping and settling in Belgium.

The European Union has imposed numerous sanctions on Iran for serious human rights violations, including brutal repression of peaceful demonstrators, arbitrary arrests and torture of critics of the regime.

However, the Revolutionary Guard has not yet been officially designated a terrorist organization by the EU.
