ISW: Moscow rejects Trump's ultimatum as Ukraine steps up strikes on Russian logistics - 1

Kremlin representatives have categorically rejected the new deadline set by former US President Donald Trump, by which Russia must begin negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. Moscow has confirmed that it intends to continue hostilities.

This is stated in an analysis by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), reports News.bg.

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated in his English-language profile on X (formerly Twitter) that Trump cannot dictate the terms of peace talks. According to Medvedev, the dialogue will only end when Russia achieves all of its military goals, likely referring to the original goals of the invasion, including regime change in Kiev, a change in NATO's open door policy, and the incapacitation of the Ukrainian armed forces.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said that Russia would continue the war to defend its interests, regardless of the new 10- or 12-day deadline announced by Trump on July 28.

Peskov stressed that the process of normalizing Russian-American relations has slowed down, but Moscow remains interested in such a development. According to him, progress will require "impulses" from both sides. He also indicated that the current state of bilateral relations is making it difficult to negotiate an extension of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START).

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces are stepping up their campaign of long-range strikes on Russian military-industrial facilities and transport networks. The head of the Ukrainian Center for Combating Disinformation, Lieutenant Andriy Kovalenko, reported on July 29 that strikes had been carried out on a railway station and logistics base in Salsk, Rostov Oblast.

According to Kovalenko, Russian forces use Salsk as a logistics hub for transferring resources, fuel, ammunition, and other equipment to the front lines in Donetsk and Zaporizhia Oblasts, as well as to occupied Crimea. On the same date, a Ukrainian reserve officer stated that a train carrying fuel was most likely hit.

Russian sources have published footage purportedly showing fires at the Salsk railway station. Russian officials said drone attacks in the Rostov region were repelled overnight.

The Ukrainian open-access intelligence organization Frontelligence Insight reported that July 29 was the third consecutive day of Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian railway and industrial facilities. According to the organization, these strikes dealt a significant logistical blow to the railway line connecting the military-industrial centers of Volgograd and Rostov-on-Don.

Frontelligence added that Ukrainian forces hit electrical substations, fuel tanks and railway buildings in Orlovsky (Rostov region) and Zhutovo (Volgograd region) - sites located on the main logistical line to the occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russian military-industrial facilities, weapons depots and oil sector facilities supporting the Russian invasion. Recent attacks show a deliberate focus on disrupting transportation links between these strategic hubs.
