Thailand accuses Cambodia of truce violations along disputed border - 1

The Thai military has again accused Cambodian forces of violating a recently agreed ceasefire, citing three separate incidents along the disputed border between the two countries. According to Thai authorities, the continued aggression may force them to take more decisive action. This was reported by Reuters, reports News.bg.

The accusations come less than 48 hours after a ceasefire agreement was reached, negotiated with the mediation of Malaysia. The ceasefire was the result of increased diplomatic pressure from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and US President Donald Trump.

According to the Thai military, Cambodian troops fired on positions in the northeastern Thai province of Sisaket, located near the northern border with Cambodia. According to Bangkok, small arms and grenade launchers were used, forcing Thai forces to return fire. This is the second such incident since the ceasefire was announced.

Cambodia rejected the accusations, stressing that it remains committed to the ceasefire. A statement from the Cambodian Foreign Ministry said that Thailand's claims were "false, misleading and harmful to the fragile process of building trust". Cambodian authorities called for the dispatch of international observers to ensure an objective assessment of what is happening along the border.
