Cambodia has announced its intention to nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, Reuters reported, quoted by FOCUS.
Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister San Chanthol confirmed the plan to nominate Trump for the prize.
In a statement to journalists in the capital Phnom Penh, Chanthol thanked Trump for establishing peace and said he deserved a nomination for the prize, the highest international honor awarded to a person or organization considered to have done the most to "develop friendship between peoples".
According to the British agency, it was Trump's appeal last week that helped efforts to end the most fierce hostilities between Thailand and Cambodia in more than a decade, leading to talks in Malaysia.
After the ceasefire was announced, White House spokeswoman Carolyn Leavitt said in a post on X that Trump had achieved this.
"Give him the Nobel Peace Prize!“, she wrote.
At least 43 people are known to have died in the five-day, violent clashes that have displaced more than 300,000 people on both sides of the border.
"We recognize his great efforts for peace,“ Chantol said.
He added that his country was also grateful for the 19% tariff reduction.
