Turkey has approved Egypt's participation in the KAAN fifth-generation fighter development program, the military website Tactical Report reported in a report dated July 30, quoted by Turkey Today, Focus reports.
According to the information, a memorandum of understanding between Ankara and Cairo is expected to be signed by the end of 2025, which will formalize technical and production cooperation between the two countries on the project.
However, Turkish authorities have not yet officially confirmed the news.
Meanwhile, Egypt is in talks with the French company Dassault Aviation to purchase additional Rafale fighter jets, highlighting its multi-pronged strategy for modernizing its air force.
“Joint production with Turkey will be a very positive step because it will be of great benefit to the Egyptian armed forces,“ General Hassan Rashid, former Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Air Force, told The New Arab.
Egypt's potential participation in the KAAN project is seen as part of a broader regional effort to reduce dependence on Western weapons systems and enhance bilateral military cooperation beyond traditional partnerships.
It is worth recalling that Indonesia recently signed a contract with Turkey to purchase a large number of KAAN fighters, marking increased international interest in the Turkish fifth-generation platform.
